I Still Won’t Weigh

Well my kids are losing weight and keep weighing themselves but I still have not weighed myself I really cant. See with my breast cancer I have now developed something called Lymphedema. Lymphedema is where protein filled fluid basically gets trapped in a limb and when you have lymph nodes removed when you have cancer you are always at risk of developing it. I am not happy about it because starting next week I am going to have this giant compression wrap on my left arm. It is a good thing I am right handed. Well with all this extra … Continue reading

Do We Need All Those Wonder Cleaners?

There are so many cleaners on the market, one for every job. What did we do before these fabulous companies came up with a product for everything? If you bought one of each product the manufacturers want to convince you that you must have in order to have a clean home, you would have a very full cleaning basket. The list goes on and on. For every stain there is a remover, every substance or surface, a special cleaner. I used to cringe every time I opened the cabinet under my sink; things were always falling out, getting spilled, making … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-Winter Wonderland

It is so cold here in Utah this winter. I can’t seem to warm up. The kids have cabin fever, as do I, and you can only go so many times to the library without going crazy. But, I do love the snow, although this winter, it seems a little ridiculous how cold it has been. My many friends and family in the south have even gotten a considerable amount of snow this week. So, since I don’t see a warm up in my future anytime soon, why not embrace what is all around us? Winter!! This weeks challenge will … Continue reading

The Wonderful Week of Ham

We eat very little red meat (including pork) in our household, so when we do indulge in it, the experience can be transforming. I am convinced now, that Ralph Cramden, of The Honeymooners fame, had a good reason behind his famous stammer. Whenever he found himself excited, he would utter not, “Humminah, Huminah,” but actually “Hammina Hammina.” For those of your too young to remember The Honey Mooners in rerun, I point you to YouTube to see what I mean. Anyway, my husband does the prep work and cooking whenever we have ham. With a mixture of brown sugar, pineapple … Continue reading

Why We Don’t Need Signs and Wonders

Why don’t we need signs and wonders to prove where we stand with God? Won’t they make us more spiritual or a better class of Christian? No. Because God has given us all we need for the Christian life Colossians tells us. What has he given us exactly? If we have accepted Jesus God has ‘qualified us’ just as he did the Colossian Christians ‘to share in the inheritance of the saints of light,’ Colossians 1:12. God had ‘delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,’ Colossians 1:13. It is through … Continue reading

Wendy’s Wonderful Kids

One positive that’s happened in adoption in 2008 is the activity of a creatively targeted program, funded by Wendy’s customers and the foundation started by the hamburger chain’s founder, to help kids in foster care find permanent homes. There are over half a million kids in foster care in the U.S. By last year’s figures, 129,000 were free to be adopted. Many spend five years or more in foster care before being adopted. Children who are in the foster care system until they “age out” at age eighteen often find themselves literally on the street with nothing and no one. … Continue reading

Taking Wonderful Wedding Pictures

Summer is the height of wedding season. But you don’t have to be a professional photographer to take amazing shots of the bridal party. An Answered Prayer, a Wonton Cooked

We’ve all read the cute little stories in The Friend about the boy who lost his dime, said a prayer, and found it, right? I can’t help but get teary any time I read about a child’s faith and how quickly the Lord hears and answers their prayers. Sometimes I forget that I’m His child, too, and that He hears me just as well. Last week was the Blue and Gold Banquet for the Cub Scouts in my ward. I had (somewhat foolishly, I admit) volunteered to have a fairly large hand with the food, and prepared to roll a … Continue reading

We Just Won’t Always See Things the Same Way

Most of us expect that we will see things differently from our spouses or close friends and family, but for some reason, we assume that our children will have perspectives much closer to ours. Perhaps it is that we think we will be able to shape them from the early formative years, or perhaps it is because there are times when it really does seem like we are so similar and symbiotic. But the truth is—we are different people and we really will not always see things in the same way or the have the same approaches to things. It … Continue reading

Oh No, We Won Best New Artist – Part 2

In my last blog, I talked about artists who won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist then didn’t quite live up to the hype. But, the VMA has only been around since 1984. If you really want to talk about the kiss of death award for an artist or band, let’s talk about the Best New Artist Grammy Award. As far as the Grammys go, the Best New Artist (BNA) award has been around since 1960. And there have been some acts that have truly lived up to the title. A little group named the Beatles won … Continue reading
