Default New York Families, Introduce Yourselves

As Families.com is growing, we thought it would be fun for families to be able to find, network with and make friends with other families in their area. These families could talk about local issues, local events, local support groups, local politics and other issues specific to that location. These families could share reviews of restaurants, doctors, schools, politicians, parks and other businesses. We thought it would be nice to know which businesses and services other families liked and disliked. These families could provide reviews of local entertainment, culture and other attractions for other families who might take a vacation to that area. The families could have online garage sales or give away hand-me-down items to other families in the area who might be able to use them. These families could form local support groups, get together and go out to lunch (keeping safety issues in mind), or come together to support a local good cause.

This is our vision for the Families.com Local area. We encourage everyone to start off by introducing themselves on their local forum. Share whatever you feel comfortable and appropriate. What do you like to do for fun? Tell us about your family. Why do you come to Families.com? What kind of friends would you like to meet? What are your favorite things about the area where you live? What are your least favorite? Where is your absolute favorite place to eat? Help us start this local support and networking forum in your area.

Default Oswego, New York

We live in upstate NY and have quite a large family as I am finding out. To my husband and I it doesn't seem large, but we get quite the comments when we are all out together. We have Jordan 14, Saige 8, Hayden 5, Lilly 3, Lincoln 2, and Torin 2. We moved back to the area about six years ago after my husband got out of the Army. We were a lot of places and decided to come back here due to the fact that our older daughter lived here with her father. I'm a SAHM and my husband is in the private security business in Syracuse, NY. He travels a lot and is away from the house for long hours so I guess I have most of the responsibility with the house. I don't have a lot of interaction with other adults because the youngers ones seem to keep me homebound most of the time and of course the winter has been horrible here. I joined families mostly to connect with other adults and to take the strain off my husband since he is the only one sometimes I have to talk to. I also would like to meet more families of our size to mainly find out if they go through the same things we do. I guess my family has been so important to me I haven't made time to stay close to friends or to even have time to have a friendship with anyone. We don't have any family where we live, they are mostly scattered around the world, so we never have a break. My husband is the same way. He mostly knows only the people at work. We really don't like where we are living right now and are currently waiting to put our house on the market so we can move closer to Syracuse. The traveling is actually counterproductive for him. Initially we thought it would help him with the calls he gets after work and also to give him time to unwind, but in reality it takes away from family time. We lose a lot of time while he is traveling which could be spent helping out around the house. This is a great place during the summer. Lots of stuff to do and of course the lake is a couple blocks from our house. Our family loves to come for the festivals they have here. Harborfest is a big one during late July. There is a park across the street where they hold the jazzfest. They have an old country fair, Pumpkinfest, and concerts at the parks. The farmer's market is a huge success here too.
There's a big college population also so the bars are plentiful. The only thing they lack is shopping. We love to eat at Food Chow City. It is the best chinese food EVER.
I look forward to meeting some new people and hopefully learning lots on the site.

Default Grandmas are important

I'm delighted with the opportunity, to introduce myself. I am a 60 year old grandmother, who has a day job, selling commerical real estate. 6 months ago I started a Self Help Blog www.grammology.com with the hopes of bringing back grandma... I have a daughter who has blessed me with 7 grandchildren. My husband has three daughters and together we rock and roll...
The grammology blog has been much of the experiences, I've had with my daughter and her family...
My brothers and sisters, are also an intricate part of my life. Currently we are bonding together to take care of our mother and my brothers' mother in law. Life is filled with peaks and valleys and hopefully by sharing thoughts and experience we will help each other. Hope you'll stop by my site, and give me comments as to what you think. I'm enjoying this site...very much..Regards, Grammy from www.grammology.com
