Default Louisiana Families, Introduce Yourselves

As Families.com is growing, we thought it would be fun for families to be able to find, network with and make friends with other families in their area. These families could talk about local issues, local events, local support groups, local politics and other issues specific to that location. These families could share reviews of restaurants, doctors, schools, politicians, parks and other businesses. We thought it would be nice to know which businesses and services other families liked and disliked. These families could provide reviews of local entertainment, culture and other attractions for other families who might take a vacation to that area. The families could have online garage sales or give away hand-me-down items to other families in the area who might be able to use them. These families could form local support groups, get together and go out to lunch (keeping safety issues in mind), or come together to support a local good cause.

This is our vision for the Families.com Local area. We encourage everyone to start off by introducing themselves on their local forum. Share whatever you feel comfortable and appropriate. What do you like to do for fun? Tell us about your family. Why do you come to Families.com? What kind of friends would you like to meet? What are your favorite things about the area where you live? What are your least favorite? Where is your absolute favorite place to eat? Help us start this local support and networking forum in your area.

Smile Love Louisiana!

Hi,
I'm new to Families.com and I think this is a great way to meet new folks in this community as well as interact with fellow Louisianians. I live in the northeast part of the state right off of I-20. Many people say that we are more like southern Arkansas than Louisiana, but we do have our share of bayous, moss-layered trees and even alligators! We don't have the Cajun population, however we do have some of the very best food with a lot of Cajun influence. Great jambalaya, crawfish, and fabulous bread puddings. Food is a huge part of the Louisiana life and besides the weather it is the subject that most conversations will end up about.
Our part of the state is particularly strong for families and for church community. We take care of our neighbors here and we are very involved with the lives of our children and our schools. High school athletics are supported here even more than some professional teams are!
Let me recommend some great restaurants: The Warehouse and Sage in Monroe. Canards and Cheniere Shack in West Monroe. All locally owned with great chefs. And true Louisiana cooking. Sage and Canards are upscale with sophistication. The Warehouse is casual, fun and a great historical atmosphere right on the Ouachita River. Cheniere Shack is more than casual. Wear your camo or your ballcap and you'll fit right in and you'll love the fried catfish and shrimp. Mmmmm..
You will love Louisiana! Especially the 60 degree weather in January. When we have those days, we know why we live here.
Yours,
Doctorlady
