I have uploaded a pic of the island next to Kent Island (I was standing on Kent Island at the time). Note how the beach is al beach - no sand! Just coral and shells...

I was sure I wrote back a couple of days ago... Nevermind.
It's been a great weekend for us in Darwin. My little guy had his very first birthday on Wednesday, so in addition to a lunch with daddy at work, and a play date (more for big sister!) at one of those indoor playgrounds with the ball pits etc, we also had a small morning tea at a local oval/green park. I'd given my husband an amateur rocket for our anniversary and we had our first launch yesterday. How wonderful! I'd really recommend these Estes rockets (we got ours from a hobby shop in WA). We had a count-up (other kids couldn't count backwards) and blast off; the rocket shot up around 150m. VERY high! The wind caught it and it ended up landing about 380m away. I am still excited by it.
It was dry yesterday morning, but it has continued to be a wet and rainy monsoonal week up here. Wish I could share this wet weather with you southerners.
Anyway, I'll continue to come back to post if others are interested; I don't use the other forums here.
Cheers,
Ruby

Cooktown
Hi Ruby - thanks for the news! We've been getting some rain over here on the Tablelands. It's coming from a different direction than usual and is nice and heavy at times. It will make a difference to our water supplies over here. I think there is widespread rain - sure do hope everyone is getting what they need! Sounds like your family had a very special day out, and the rocket sounds like a LOT of fun! We had a little jaunt over to Cooktown since I last wrote. We have always wanted to see it, and so last week we drove the four hours to get there and enjoyed looking around. We stayed overnight. It was a lot hotter there than on the Tablelands, but the locals were remarking about what nice weather tthey were having. We went to all the lookouts and landmarks, and then we also explored the old convent museum and the cemetery - it had a Jewish and Chinese section and a lot of the markers went back to the late 1800s. We collected some frangipanni cuttings for our garden by asking permission to gather some from a lady who worked at the museum. They are all laying in my flower bed now, getting ready to be planted. That's the kind of souvenir I like! Today my DH went back to work. I have till Thursday to enjoy time at home and then I go back too. I'm going to help my DD look for some work in the next few days. She's 20 and needs to have a job! She's been studying until this year, so it's time to get out there and work now. Will look forward to your next post, Ruby. Take care till then.

You can get back to me through this e-mail address: terryintrust@yahoo.com or you add me to your messenger or MSN so we can talk for immediate updates on my behalf and hoping to hear from you soon.
